Launching the Gifted World Community!
Hi, this is the GenWise team- we bring out this newsletter to help parents and educators to complement the work of formal schools and associated systems. We can help our children thrive in these complex times only by exchanging ideas and insights and working together.
We're really excited to tell you about our new initiative in the ecosystem of supporting talented students.
Why the Gifted World Community?
Gifted students require a community of peers, mentors, and advocates to challenge them, foster their sense of belonging, and help them navigate the complexities of their asynchronous development.
Gifted students often face unique challenges:
Intellectual Isolation: Lack of peers who think at their level
Boredom: When coursework isn't stimulating
Social-Emotional Needs: Intensity, perfectionism, etc. need understanding
A supportive community addresses these and helps gifted students feel seen, challenged, and empowered.
Gifted World Partners
Genwise has partnered with long time collaborators and friends, Educational Initiatives and the Center for Talent Development, Northwestern University, to launch the Gifted World Community - www.giftedworld.org
In this online space, we aim to help parents, schools, and educators better understand and meet the needs of gifted children. Our goal is to empower them to reach their full potential and ensure their emotional well-being.
What’s happening in the Gifted World Community?
Here are some fun moments we've had in the past 2 months -
In our very first masterclass, Ashish Kulkarni gave the students a glimpse into the the mind of an economist. Participants were asking questions about inflation and the growth of nations that I expected to come from undergraduates, not middle-schoolers.
What kinds of things are generative AI good at, and what do they find absolutely confusing? Navin Kabra led participants through a masterclass where they explored the myriad uses of AI and reinforced the importance of learning for yourself to be able to identify what knowledge to trust.
Rupin Chheda led a Masterclass on Paper airplanes. Our youngest participant was a UKG student who was among the quickest to make and start flying his plane! Another participant attended the session from the back seat of a moving car, and therefore could use the wind through the window almost like a wind tunnel!
Understanding Giftedness: A Global Challenge
Gifted children possess incredible potential, yet they face unique challenges that can hinder their development. The common misconception that these children will thrive on their own without specialized support can lead to feelings of isolation and confusion for both the children and their families. The Gifted World Community seeks to address this by providing a comprehensive support system tailored to the talent development journey. From identifying talents to offering exposure, education, and experience, we hope to develop our platform to cater to everyone's needs in the space of gifted and talented education.
